Key West is gearing up for its annual Fantasy Fest celebration, and local hip-hop artist Mike Stack has been selected to serve as the grand marshal for the 2026 parade.

Fantasy Fest Tradition Continues

The Fantasy Fest parade, which began in 1979 as a modest, DIY event, has grown into one of Key West's most significant annual parties. The tradition of appointing a grand marshal started in 1983 with Tennessee Williams. Since then, the role has been held by various notable figures, including actress Kelly McGillis in 1991, athlete and author Diana Nyad in 2013, and paranormal expert David Sloan in 2024, according to Keys Weekly.

Artist's Vision for the Parade

Stack, a Key West native and the artist behind the song "I'm from Key West," expressed his excitement about the honor, likening the phone call to an induction into a hall of fame. He plans to transform his parade float into a traveling concert experience along Duval Street, inviting fans to dance along. Stack has already begun assembling a team of sound and lighting technicians, fellow local artists, and DJs, including his collaborator D-Lew, to bring his vision to life. He intends to invite the public to join the moving spectacle, aiming for a memorable experience for attendees and himself.

A Busy Schedule for Stack

Beyond his role in Fantasy Fest, Stack is also preparing to host the second annual Stack'd Festival from October 9-11, just weeks before the parade. This festival will feature a variety of free musical performances across Key West, from a major concert at Sunset Pier to more intimate pool parties, acoustic sets, and nightly DJ performances. The Keys Weekly noted that the energy Stack dedicates to his festival demonstrates his suitability to lead the upcoming Fantasy Fest celebration.

The 2026 Fantasy Fest theme is "Musical Icons and Iconic Musicals."

Stack humbly stated that while he doesn't see himself as an icon, he appreciates the festival's recognition of his ability to engage an audience. He is reportedly embracing the freedom given to him by festival organizers, stating, "They told me I can do whatever I want. They shouldn’t tell me that, though, because I’ve got a big imagination." His plans suggest a dynamic and interactive approach to his grand marshal duties, promising a lively addition to the island's signature event.
