The College of the Florida Keys (CFK) has a new interim president. Brittany Snyder was appointed to the role during a special meeting of the board of trustees on July 20.

Snyder's Extensive Tenure at CFK

Snyder steps into the interim leadership position after serving as CFK's executive vice president and chief financial officer. Her appointment follows the board's decision to conclude Jonathan Gueverra's term as president.

With over 23 years of dedication to CFK, Snyder's career at the institution began in the business office. She transitioned to teaching, serving as an adjunct instructor in accounting, finance, and management. Her academic progression continued as a full-time faculty member, program chair for business, dean of arts and sciences, and later as provost and vice president of academic affairs.

In 2021, Snyder was promoted to executive vice president and chief financial officer. In this capacity, she managed a broad range of college operations, including business affairs, information technology, strategic planning, accreditation, human resources, facilities and construction, and sponsored programs. She has also been a key figure in accreditation efforts, serving as the college's liaison for over a decade and leading the initiative that resulted in CFK becoming one of the first institutions in Florida to earn accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission.

“I’ve been part of this College for over 20 years, and I’ve watched our students grow, work hard and go on to build better lives for themselves and their families. That’s what matters, and I am committed to ensuring that our students and community continue to receive the same exceptional education and support they have always received from CFK,” Snyder stated.

Community and System Involvement

Snyder is actively involved in the local community and the broader Florida College System. She currently serves as treasurer and a board member for the Key West Chamber of Commerce and was previously the liaison for the Young Entrepreneurship Academy, receiving the President’s Award in 2022.

Her professional affiliations include membership in the Upper Keys Business and Professional Women and the Florida Federation of Business and Professional Women. Within the Florida College System, Snyder contributes to the steering committee for the Council of Business Affairs and the operations committee of the Risk Management Consortium. She also previously chaired the Council of Instructional Affairs as a representative for small colleges and was selected for the chancellor's leadership seminar.

Academic Background

Snyder holds a doctorate in management from the University of Maryland University College, where she also earned a master’s degree in accounting and financial management. Her undergraduate studies were completed at Towson University, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
