John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo served as a venue for a celebration marking America's 250th anniversary on September 12. The event, part of the broader America 250 Florida Keys initiative, drew community members and visitors for a day of activities.
Paddling and Reef Tours Highlight Day
Attendees participated in paddling excursions, including a red, white, and blue-themed paddleboard and kayak parade that navigated the park's mangrove trails. Additionally, a glass-bottom boat tour offered a view of the coral reef. The Keys Weekly reported that the state park waived its entrance fees for the day, allowing more people to engage in the festivities.
The event featured various vendors, live music, and local culinary delights, including chocolate-dipped Key Lime pie.
Ongoing 250th Anniversary Observances
