The Florida Keys SPCA (FKSPCA) on its Marathon campus is currently seeking residents to open their homes to animals in need of adoption. The shelter houses a variety of animals, including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, reptiles, and birds, all awaiting their perfect match.
Adoption Opportunities
Prospective adopters can visit the FKSPCA's two campuses, located in Key West and Marathon, to meet the animals. The organization's staff are available to provide advice and care tips, assisting in finding a suitable pet for each family. Those interested in viewing the animals available for adoption can visit fkspca.org.
“From cats and dogs to Guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, reptiles and birds, the perfect addition to your family is waiting for you at one of the SPCA’s two campuses, in Key West and Marathon.”
The FKSPCA highlights specific animals with their qualities, preferences, and potential turn-offs to ensure a good fit. One featured pet, described as an “older lady,” is seeking a home where she can shower her new family with love after an initial shy period. Another animal is looking for an active role, enjoying tasks and problem-solving.
Hurricane Foster Needs
With hurricane season underway, the FKSPCA is also issuing an urgent call for volunteers and temporary fosters. In the event of a storm, over 100 animals would require evacuation, making pre-arranged foster homes crucial for their safety. The SPCA provides all necessary supplies for hurricane fosters; volunteers simply need to offer a safe haven during the storm and return the animal to the shelter once conditions are safe.
Interested individuals can learn more about becoming a hurricane foster by visiting fkspca.org/volunteer/become-a-foster-volunteer/ or by calling the Marathon campus directly at 305-743-4800. The Marathon campus is located at 10550 Aviation Blvd.
The FKSPCA aims to ensure the best possible match for both pets and their new families, emphasizing the importance of finding the right fit for long-term success. The organization relies on community support for both adoptions and emergency preparedness.
